Good morning folks, been an interesting week…..About the only advice I have today is trust but verify and remember, before you fall victim to the “please send me a gift card”, you need to have a live face to face video chat. Facetime works real well. During live chats you need to always match the words with lip movement, not a video and garbled voice… Yes, I broke my own number one rule.. I have been chatting with someone from Instagram but not with a verified page, but one with the same photos and posts and we have spent many hours back and forth since the first week of November this year. We agreed to meet and I send funds for a round trip ticket….You can guess that I never picked her up at baggage claim, was a no show. Through out the time we spent I was asked to send more gift cards and will admit to sending enough for a one way airfare.
During the course of our exchanges I was asked to fund an attorney $5,000.00 for research on her father estate so she could finish settling it. By state law the estate should have been settled in mid 2018 which I point out…..Then she requested for new DJ equipment, I passed. The she kept requesting for funds for food, make up and for the ever reoccurring time of the month meds…. All passed on. I have attempted live video chat, yes, via skype, ICQ, facetime and even chat, It never worked, nor do I expect it to. Probably all my fault.
A common occurrence when gift cards are sent is a response from the recipient that the card will not work or has been used… and what can we do or please send another. Do not, it takes time but you can trace the card thru the issuer and determine the status, and if used.. the search is narrowed down to ‘where and for what”. Chances are the card was used with a few minutes of receipt.
I am going to share my closing to her remark to me saying:
Pls I hoping on you my love
And my response: well let’s put it this way, I do not know if you are the real, do like you and care, yes! But even facetime phone call did not work. I am smart enough to know that your world and mine are at opposite ends of life’s table and as well as our age difference. There is nothing I can do for you now and nothing in future until I know you are the real. I have been down this road many times and the rocks are making the drive very unpleasant.
